Drawing Booth at Adobe MAX!

by Alexa Pluscarr

Last month, Adobe—the software giant synonymous with digital art and a household name to every designer—invited Drawing Booth to illustrate attendees at its annual Adobe MAX conference, held this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Adobe MAX brings together the world’s top creatives and introduces its newest additions to the Adobe suite of programs and apps. This is the tech that makes almost all of the visual art we see and experience possible.

Drawing Booth provided two of their Los Angeles-based portrait artists to sketch their signature quick portraits, this time using Adobe’s new Fresco sketching app for iPad. The drawings were created in a “pop art” color style and then live-projected on a series of vertical monitors, creating a digital portrait gallery in the space.

Samanatha Smith from Freeman described the digital portrait gallery Drawing Booth artists created as one of the favorite stops for conference attendees in the public lounge spaces, designed for participants to relax and socialize between speakers and sessions. Smith commented, “People were more than willing to wait on very long lines, because they were so excited about the service. It was so popular that halfway through the first day, we had to contact the client to add another artist.”

We asked Los Angeles-based Drawing Booth artist Dina- who has sketched for us at events with major music labels, international brands, and notable attendees- what it was like using the new Fresco app. Her response: “Adobe Fresco was a treat to paint with and explore! I’m especially impressed by the app’s Live brushes, especially the watercolor options. They glide effortlessly and expand the possibilities of recreating traditional textures with digital media.”

It’s an honor to have been engaged by Adobe at MAX, to provide our unique live-drawing service to such a noteworthy client, at such an important event in the art-tech space. As Adobe is a leader in digital art, it is great to see that what Drawing Booth is providing parallels current trends that both the creative and tech industries are looking to, and actively engaged in, right now.
